Service Description

With this certificate, you can perform the functions and duties of a deck crew member (deck watch rating) forming part of a navigational watch on ships of 500 gross tonnage (GT) or more in any operating area. The DWR certificate corresponds with a certificate issued under regulation II/4 of the International Convention on the Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers, 1978, as amended (STCW). From DWR, you can progress to Able Seafarer Deck (AB Deck). Before you spend time doing sea service and training, we recommend you check that you can meet the medical fitness and eyesight standards (including for colour vision), and that you understand the fit and proper person requirements. To get this certificate, you need to prove that you meet all of the requirements. In summary, you need to: - be at least 16 years old, medically fit and have good eyesight - be of good character and a fit and proper person - prove you have met the minimum sea service requirements - complete and pass an approved training course or complete an approved training record book - have the required ancillary certificates and a steering certificate - pass MNZ’s final exam. You must also have English conversation, reading and writing skills appropriate to the responsibilities and functions for the level of your certificate, so that you can satisfactorily complete training, pass examinations and discharge your duties.
